Abstract: The effectiveness of scientific research is estimated by the number of followers of the scientist, and in particular the parameters of the citation of his publications. However, our quotation is logically linked to the citation we have, since the more we study and cite current publications of leading scientists in the leading (in the field of science) journals, the more effective information about our article is distributed in online resources through the search engines, and the article is more likely noticed and cited. The purpose of our research was to identify the priority features of the citations in scientific articles published in the last twelve numbers of the professional journal “Agro chemistry and Soil Science” (ISSN 0587-2596; e-ISSN 2616-6852) by analyzing the structure of the references. As materials of research were scientific articles (research and review), published during 2011—2018. The sample contains 240 articles. Each list of references analyzed according to the following indicators: the total number of quoted sources; number of national publications; number of publications in Russian and English editions; the number of references to the work published during the last 5 and 3 years before the submission of the manuscript; number of self-citations. The results of the research are as follows: (a) the average number of links in one article increases over the years, which is especially noticeable in the recent issues; (b) there is a positive tendency to increase the quotation of the newest English-language editions published 3 to 5 years before the manuscript submission; (c) the proportion of self-citations in articles by researchers varies over years, but on average remains close to 12 %, which is consistent with the data of international scientometrics research in the field of soil science; (d) in the articles and scientific reports of graduate students and young scientists the character of the citation and the structure of references keep the general tendencies. Publication of the research results is supposed to streamline the search for sources of information by future authors of articles in order to increase their scientometric indices.
