\nAbstract<\/strong>: The article is focused on investigating the construction sector performance in various European countries, including Ukraine, in the context of intensifying \u201cgreen\u201d construction. It is emphasized that the construction industry is central to the modern economy development, being a factor of business efficiency through providing fixed assets, creating significant numbers of jobs and consuming many products from various related industries. It is noted that construction is the leading sector of the economy in achieving the sustainable development goals, with the circular economy being its component.<\/p>\n

The methodological framework of the study includes general scientific methods: analysis and synthesis, scientific abstraction, comparative method. The obtained scientific results are based on the use of tabular and graphical methods. The extrapolation method was chosen for forecasting the construction industry dynamics.<\/p>\n

The study builds on statistical sources of domestic and foreign origin (EU Statistical Service, State Statistics Service of Ukraine). The study shows that the leading countries in the construction sector are Asian ones (primarily China), the United States and the EU. It was found that the pandemic in 2020 had a significant impact on the construction sector performance across the European countries. An economic analysis of competitiveness at country level involved a set of indicators measuring industry performance in production, financial, science & technology and environmental aspects, and characterizing the labor force in construction. It revealed that Germany ranked top by the construction industry performance, with France, the Netherlands and Poland having the second, the third and the fourth ranks; Ukraine, placed on the bottom, lagged far behind these leaders. Although a projection of the construction output in Ukraine showed a potential for growth, factors that might slow down its pace were identified.<\/p>\n

It is shown that promising areas of the construction sector development, capable of promoting the implementation of the circular economy and sustainable developed principles in European countries, including Ukraine, are information modeling of buildings (use of BIM-technologies), decarbonization of construction, manufacturing of building materials and enhancing energy efficiency of buildings<\/p>\n
