FROM THE HISTORY OF CREATION OF ROCKET COMPLEXES 15A14 AND 15A15 (BEGINNING OF THE 70’S OF THE 20TH CENTURY)

Abstract: The article is devoted to the popularization of the scientific heritage of researchers and engineers who worked in Ukrainian design offices, research & production and industrial enterprises and HEEs and contributed in the creation of strategic combat missile systems R-36M and MR-UR100 at early 70s of the past century. The purpose of the publication is to reconstruct little-known historical facts pertaining to the development of missile technology in the analyzed period.
The study is based on declassified archival documents on defense issues of the Central State Archive of Public Associations of Ukraine, introduced into scientific circulation for the first time. General scientific, interdisciplinary and special-historical methods (problem-chronological, comparative-historical, analysis, synthesis and classification) are applied.
Detailed data are given on the main phases in the development of the 15A14 missile system by researchers and engineers of Yuzhnoye SDO, technical documentation on the intercontinental ballistic missile hull and its heads parts, control system devices, pilot designs, experimental development and readiness for flight tests of the missile system of the rocket R-36M; on the content, deadlines and realization of the missile system 15A15 by the specialists of the Yuzhnoye SDO; on numbers of employees in Ukrainian factories of the defense industry, research institutions of the industry ministries and the Academy of Sciences, involved in missile-related R&D in the 70s of the past century; main R&D and research areas on this topic, performed by researchers and engineers of the Yuzhnyi Machine-Building Plant, Pavlograd Mechanical Plant, Kyiv Radio Plant, “Kommunar” Plant, Design Office of Electrical Instrumentation.
The use of archival documents allowed to more thoroughly reconstruct the history of Ukrainian rocketry and highlight the contribution of Ukrainian specialists in the creation of missile technology.
