Abstract: The article examines the main innovations of the Law of Ukraine “On Media” and analyzes the state of registration of scientific periodicals of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NAS of Ukraine) in accordance with its requirements. This Law defines the legal basis for the activities of media entities in Ukraine and resolves the issue of registration of electronic periodicals. The main terms and definitions regulated by the Law of Ukraine “On Media” are given. The main innovations of the legislation, which provide for changes in the functioning of scientific periodicals, are shown. Aspects of violation of legal requirements in the field of media and measures to respond to their commission are highlighted. Special attention was paid to the process of registration of print media that had a certificate of registration of a printed mass media. In the process of monitoring the decisions of The National Сouncil of Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine, it was established that as of June of this year, 212 out of 277 scientific periodicals of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine were registered as media. The results of a detailed analysis of decisions by types of registered editions, publication frequency, method and language of distribution of copies are presented. The distribution of unregistered printed periodicals according to the structure of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was carried out. Problematic issues that arose in the process of registration of scientific periodicals of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine during interaction with The National Сouncil of Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine and the founders of periodicals are summarized and highlighted. Institutions and branches of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine were given recommendations on improving the functioning of scientific media. The relevance of the unification of the activities of scientific workers and employees of the publishing divisions of the NAS of Ukraine regarding the simultaneous consideration of the requirements of the current legislation, compliance with the norms of the Procedure for the formation of the List of scientific and specialized publications of Ukraine, ensuring selection criteria for international databases, timely updating and updating of data in the ISSN National Center, etc. was noted.
