Abstract: The contribution of Ukrainian researchers in performing R&D and design works in the defense-related projects still remains “a blank spot” in the history of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. This is so because R&D performed in the defense field has never been investigated as a separate research subject. It should be also born in mind that all the classified documents on the defense-related projects, performed by the Academy of Sciences of the UkrSSR, were to be destroyed, whereas the records filed in the institutes were to be classified. A valuable information source in the Central State Archive of Public Associations of Ukraine is the Fund of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine and its classified part (form 1), where selected records of the Academy’s Presidium and institutes and the State Planning Committee of the UkrSSR containing data about the fulfillment of plans on the defense-related projects could be preserved. The document informing the results of work on the defense-related projects, performed by the Academy institutes in 1972, prepared by Ya. Rudenko, head of the defense industry department at the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine, is presented in the original language.
