Abstract: The article was prepared on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the creation of the Central State Scientific and Technical Archive (CSSTA) of Ukraine, which will be celebrated in December 2024. A historiographical review could not reveal a comprehensive study devoted to a reproduction of the complete history of the CSSTA of Ukraine, although a series of publications of its employees were devoted to certain areas of the archive’s work in 1969—2019. The article sums up the results of a comprehensive study of CSSTA activities in 2020—2024. The role and importance of the institution in preservation of scientific and technical documentation of the National Archives Fund is shown; the impact of external factors on the CSSTA activities is characterized: the epidemic of COVID-19, the relocation of the archives to a new building, the full-scale invasion of Russian troops to Ukraine, etc. The article highlights the innovative developments and projects implemented in CSSTA of Ukraine over the last five years: “TOPAZ” system for electronic identification of storage objects, “Complex 3D-excursion in premises of the Central State Scientific and Technical Archive of Ukraine”, interactive maps “Traveling across the cities of Ukraine” and “Traveling around the world”, “Object-geographical catalog of the CSSTA of Ukraine”. Methodological approaches and activities of the CSSTA of Ukraine aiming to ensure free public access to archival resources and create a positive image of openness of archives are described. The types of composition and content of the scientific and technical documentation being in state storage in CSSTA funds is characterized; its unique significance and important practical role for the reconstruction of Ukrainian infrastructures destroyed by the Russian troops is emphasized. It is stressed that popularization of information about archives and archival documents, drawing the world community’s attention to issues of saving historical, cultural and scientific heritage can be an effective step in facing the challenges caused by the war. In view of the above, the successful experience gained by CSSTA of Ukraine in involving advanced technologies and innovative projects in practical activities can be used by other archival, educational, research, and cultural institutions.

Keywords: archive, scientific and technical documentation, rescue of cultural heritage, archival information resources, innovations in archival practice, the Central State Scientific and Technical Archive of Ukraine.
